#04 "Where Have You Ben"

Ben stood in the kitchen, remembering all the times over the years he had spent here on the island, in this cabin, and in this very kitchen. He watched as Walt walked by, who looked a little stressed out. Ben then remembered all the pain he had caused him. He started to follow Walt, only to be stopped by Hurley in the hallway.
“Ben dude, you may not wanna do that right now. It’s like, not the right time, man,” Hurley tried to explain, “He had some kind of nightmare, and I’m not sure what it was about.”
Ben looked Hurley dead in the eyes but didn’t respond in words. He turned back toward the kitchen from where he came. He walked to the window and stared out to the jungle beyond the yard. “Redemption” he scoffed to himself.

2007

Ben sat on the beach looking out at the ocean. The sun was setting creating a wonderful tapestry of colors amongst the clouds. Deep in thought, Ben stared as he picked up small twigs lying in the sand and threw them toward the water.
“Dude...” Hurley said as he walked up from behind him. Ben offered no response as he sulked like a child who couldn’t get his way, "Dude, I don't know why you are being like this," Hurley started, "You are just like Darth Vader." Ben turned and looked, not understanding the metaphor. "You know, Star Wars, like you were all evil and stuff … then you turned good."
"What does that make you?" Ben asked.
Not expecting the question, Hurley responded, "I guess that would make me the Emperor."
Ben scoffed, "Well then, it's a good thing I never saw that movie."
“C’mon man. I need your help. I don’t know what I’m doing. My head is still spinning,” Hurley pleaded.
“I’m not sure I’m the right man for this,” Ben explained as he looked toward the ocean again, “I have hurt so many people, Hugo… too many. I…”
“Well yeah,” Hurley interrupted as he sat down next to Ben, “I know. You lied to just about everyone… like all the time.”
“It’s not just pain I caused … I killed people, Hugo.” Ben started, “The result of all of the manipulation and webs of lies led to the death of all the people I cared about in my life. My daughter, my father, and I even helped wipe out an entire village of people that you were a part of in the 70’s. I didn’t just hurt people I cared about … I also hurt people that you cared about.”
“You mean Locke and…”
“Jacob,” Ben answered still staring out to the ocean, “How can I be your number two man if I killed the last man in charge?”
“You were duped, dude. We all were,” Hurley tried to reason, “Nobody knew that the monster took Locke’s form. He manipulated all of us and you fell into his hand like everyone else. Lucky for me, I was shacking up with very intelligent hippies in the 70’s for most of it. If you want forgiveness, dude,” Hurley placed his hand on Ben’s shoulder and smiled, “I think what you have to do is find a way to forgive yourself first. You know what you did was bad, but at the time, you thought it was for the greater good. Now take responsibility for your actions, change your ways and forgiveness will come eventually. Repent! …as my mother used to say.”
Ben replied in astonishment that those words came from Hurley’s mouth, “I have been like that for as long as I can remember… and the crazy part of it all is that when I was committing each of those actions, I felt no shame, no remorse, and no regret … until now.”
“You’ve got a long road ahead of you, Ben dude,” Hurley settled back also looking outward to the sea, “Good news is, we can help each other … and it seems that we have plenty of time.”
Ben stood to his feet.
“Where are you going?” Hurley asked.
“You are better at this than you realize, Hugo,” Ben responded as he started to walk away, “I have work to do.”

1992

Ben took a deep breath. He stood in the cabin’s kitchen and watched as his father, Roger, passed him by. His father was wearing his DHARMA jumpsuit and looked unhappy like he always had. Again, no words were exchanged, only the awkward stillness that has been now interpreted as bitter hatred. ‘This has to end’ Ben thought to himself. Not understanding what exactly he meant by that thought, Ben decided to go outside for a walk.
“Where are you going?” Roger asked contemptuously, “Why aren’t you dressed in your uniform?”
“What do you care,” Ben responded, just as contemptuous and kept walking out the door. He headed for the forest that led to the sonic security fence. Roger ran outside after him.
“Benjamin, what do you think you’re doing?? Get back here now! You have work to do!”
“Yes I do,” Ben said to himself in response and continued walking.

Ben walked to the sonic fence control box, flipped open the panel, and quickly turned it off. As the electrical hum from the fence ceased, Ben walked into the jungle and started to shout, “Where are you? I need to see you. I need to talk to you!” There was no reply. The skies were bright blue as they usually were, and could barely be seen through the treetops. “Hello!?”
“Benjamin?”
“Richard…” Ben sighed in relief, “I need to talk to Charles.”
Richard looked frustrated and responded, “It doesn’t work that way, Ben. You know that. We come to you. You don’t ...”
“There has been a change in plans. We can’t wait any longer. It has to happen now,” Ben pleaded.
“What do you mean?” Richard asked, intrigued.
“There is something big going on at the headquarters in Ann Arbor and it’s going to happen soon,” Ben explained, “Talk to Charles then. You tell him that they know about The Temple and they plan to exploit it.”
Richard, very alarmed by this news, did not hesitate to respond, “Alright, let’s go talk to Charles.”
Ben gave a satisfied yet sinister smirk, “Thank you, Richard. Yes, let’s go talk to Charles. He will be most grateful for this information.”

2007

Ben walked toward the jungle and could hear Hurley say, “Ok then, I guess I will meet you back at the cabin?” but Ben did not respond and disappeared into the darkened tropical forest. He walked like a man on a mission, determined. He cleared brush out of the way as he hiked his way to the Oceanic cemetery, where not too long ago he dug his own grave. Now that grave had been freshly filled. Ben grabbed the makeshift shovel that he used to dig the grave and headed back into the jungle.

Night had fallen and only the moonlight illuminated the path in front. Ben, having walked for a while, took a moment to rest and gather his senses. He looked around to ensure he was going in the correct direction, and pressed onward. After a few moments of clearing the branches away, he walked out into a small clearing to reveal the pit containing the bones and remains of the Dharma Initiative. Ben remembered the day the bodies were dragged here. He remembered shooting John Locke and leaving him for dead here. The bodies could barely be seen from the light of night yet, with a remorsefully pain stricken look, Ben stared at them. An eternity seemed to have passed as he relived those moments in memory. Without a solitary sound, Ben hunched over with the shovel in his hands and dug into the ground. He tossed the loosened dirt onto the bodies in the pit and noticed Hurley standing in the woods on the other side holding a torch. Frozen in shock that Hurley was there he said, “They deserve a proper burial,” and started to shovel more dirt into the pit, “but this is something I need to do on my own.”
Hurley walked over to Ben and responded, “Nobody said you have to walk this path alone, dude.” He handed Ben some water and started to shovel with him.

Present Day

Ben jumped, as he was startled out of his daydream state when he heard yelling coming from outside the front of the cabin. He walked curiously to the front door to see what was causing such a commotion. When he opened the door, an unsettling smirk came about his face.

#03 "The Practical Son Returns"

Walt got out of bed. He looked at Hurley, who looked very alarmed and confused. The sunlight coming in through the window was blinding. He was still struggling to process the dream he just had, which made him speechless. Walt walked towards the door to leave the room.
“Walt? Hurley asked, “What happened?”
“I just need a moment” Walt replied, “I just need to get some air.”

Emma was sitting on the front porch of her cabin when she noticed Walt walking out from the cabin across from her. “Walt! Wait up!” She stood up and ran up along side him. “Where are you going?”
“I didn’t sleep well.” He replied, “I just need to be alone right now.”
“Oh.” She replied as she stopped walking, “I just wanted to let you know that if you ever wanted to talk, I am a great listener.” Emma sounded concerned, trying to coax what was obviously wrong out of him. Walt kept walking as he stared off into the jungle ignoring what she said. Emma stood and watched him walk away into the woods.
“He’ll be alright.” Hurley said as he stepped off the porch and walked towards her, “Give him some time, girl dude. He’s got a lot to get used to, ya know?”
“Yeah I know. He said he wanted to be alone. Isn’t that what he’s always been?”
Hurley paused before responding. He just stood there and crossed his arms. “Yeah. He’s gotten used to it. I’m going after him.” Hurley shuffled off to follow Walt.

Walt stood as he gazed upon the tall pylons that were protecting the village. The electrical hum was barely audible over the breeze that moved the trees. He looked around the lush foliage beyond the sonic fence, listening hard hoping that he would hear something. As he stared into the brush, he saw what looked like a human male moving through the branches of the bushes. Walt walked towards the movement, “Hello??” but no response came. “Is someone there??” he asked, still walking towards what he had seen. “Hello?!?!” he yelled.
“Dude! Stop!” Hurley yelled back, “Don’t move!”
Walt turned to see the sign he saw the day before. ‘Warning – Sonic Fence Will Cause Serious Injury – Do Not Enter’ and the electric hum was a lot louder. Walt carefully took a step back.
“What’s going on little man? That sign is like, not lying.” Hurley urged.
“I thought I saw something in the woods.” Walt explained, “It looked like a person.”
“Did you see who it was?” Hurley asked.
“No, I couldn’t tell.” Walt thought for a moment, “Are there other people here??”
“That depends on your point of view.” Hurley explained, “Come sit here with me. Now I get to tell you my Obi-wan Kenobi speech.” Hurley sat by the pylon control panel. Walt sat next to him with a confused and concerned look on his face. “You know I asked you to come here because we needed your help, right?”
“Yeah, a job.” Walt replied.
“Well it’s a very special job, for a very special person…and that special person is you, dude.” Hurley started, “You’re gonna see things that aren’t gonna be easy to explain.”
“Well, there were those whispers I heard yesterday.” Walt exclaimed.
“To be honest, that’s nothing to worry about.” Hurley confirmed.
“How do you know?” asked Walt.
“’Cause I’m also special, and I heard them too. I hear them all the time.”
“What about the others back at the cabins?” Walt asked, “Are they special too?”
“Not like us, little man.”
“Not even Ben?”
Hurley chuckled, “Ben is his own kind of special, but not like us, well not anymore.”
“I don’t get it. I try to make sense of everything, but I have so many questions.” Walt clarified, “I don’t trust him. I only came back ‘cause of you, Hurley.”
“You will eventually trust him. Ben has struggled a lot to get to where he is, but he’s still struggling inside. He’s very remorseful for the things he did to you when you were here last.” Hurley went on, “But I’m not the only reason why you came back.”
“No.” Walt thought to himself, remembering the sound of his father yelling his name from the raft as he was initially kidnapped. ‘Waaaaalt!’
“My dad. It’s been 6 years.” Walt stuggled to put his feelings into words, “The last time I saw him was through the bedroom window of my grandmother’s house. He came to talk to me a couple months after we got back. Just before Christmas. I was so mad at him for what he did to those women here. I was so confused… All the nightmares, like last night… For years I’ve tried to rationalize everything that happened to me… The hospital.” Walt’s eyes started to tear up, “My only regret is that I never got to say goodbye. I should have gone to the door.”
“Your father regrets the way he handled things and what that did to you,” Hurley responded, “One thing you have to realize is that he’s human. We all make mistakes, and we all do things we wouldn’t normally do to protect what we love. Believe me dude, I speak from experience.”
“Ben said I could still help him…” Walt asked, “If he is dead…How?”
Hurley opened the control panel on the pylon and deactivated the fence. The humming sound faded. “Let’s go see who you saw in the woods.”

They stood up and walked into the jungle. Almost immediately faint whispers could be heard, soft and incomprehensible. The cold breeze returned, as the whispers grew louder. The phrase ‘He’s back’ could be heard again along with ‘I love you, Walt’. A rustling came from within the bushes ahead as if someone was coming. Hurley put his hand on Walt’s shoulder.
“Walt?” a familiar voice asked.
“Dad??” Walt responded as Michael came through the brush.
“Walt…My boy!” Michael pleasingly called out, as he walked towards them both.
“This can’t be hap-… I thought you were dead.” Walt froze, stunned. He could not believe what his eyes saw and refused to believe. “You are not my dad.” Walt turned to walk away but Hurley held him still.
“It is me, Walt.” Michael urged. Walt looked at Hurley.
“It’s him.” Hurley confirmed. Walt turned back around to face his father. For a moment he stared into Michael’s smiling face. Walt suddenly became angry.
“My dad is dead!” Walt yelped as he broke from Hurley’s grasp. Hurley watched with Michael as Walt ran off into the jungle in the direction they had come.
Stunned, Hurley said, “I totally didn’t see that comin’”

Elsewhere…

The night was humid, quiet, and only the distant lightning lit up the sky. “Hello?” came from the other end of the cell phone, spoken in Archaic Egyptian.
“Yes, I am here now, at the address you gave me” Chisisi replied.
“Good. Do you have the boy?”
“No. Hondo, there is a problem. He is not here,” Chisisi spoke anxiously.
“Are you sure? That is not possible,” Hondo replied, becoming agitated, “I was told the boy would be there.” Another voice could be heard in the background, but could not be understood.
“I am sure,” Chisisi confirmed.
“This is not good. Something is out of place. Stay there. Keep a watchful eye. Know yourself. I will get back with you with further instructions.” The phone clicked before he could respond.
“Namaste.” Chisisi said to himself as he walked past the Santa Rosa Mental Hospital sign putting the phone into his pocket. The entire hospital was without power and the sign looked dilapidated as though it had been this way for some time. Chisisi walked across the walkway, got into his black SUV and drove down the empty street.
Back on the island…

Walt leaned against the pylon where he and Hurley sat moments before. As the emotion overcame him, he slid down to sit on the ground. Tears fell, as he was not prepared for the overwhelming feelings.
“Hey, are you ok?” a soft female voice came from behind. Walt quickly wiped his tears and grabbed a stick that was lying close to him.
“I’m fine, Emma.” Walt replied, digging the stick in the ground.
“Can I sit with you?” she asked.
“I guess.” Walt answered, as though he didn’t really want her there.
“Why are you here?” Emma asked as she sat beside him.
“Thinking” he responded, now rubbing the stick back and forth in his hands.
“About?” she persisted.
“What I am doing? What I just saw… I dunno.” Walt stammered, “H-H-How is any of this possible???”
“I can’t tell you why these odd things are possible,” Emma started, “They just are. A lot of strange things happen here. It’s gotten better since Hurley and Ben have been taking care of us.” Walt looked at Emma at the sound of Ben’s name.
“I don’t trust him” he said, “I don’t get how you all do.”
“Ben has taken care of us for a long time. He has always been nice to me.”
“He ever stick you with needles?” asked Walt.
Emma gasped, “What?”
“Never mind” Walt said as he stood back up, “I don’t know why I’m here actually,” Walt scoffed, as he threw the branch back into the woods. Sweat started to bead on his forehead.
“Why did you come back then?” Emma inquired.
“To help my dad.”
“Then go help your dad, Walt,” she softly commanded.
Walt hesitated, but gave an assuring nod, “Okay,” as he headed back into the jungle, “Now, let’s find out what this job is.”

#02 "Home, Part 2"

8 Weeks Earlier

Hurley wandered aimlessly through the remains of the beach camp. The trees still provided ample shade from the afternoon sun. Nothing else really resembled the time when he lived here. “It all seemed so long ago.”
“Why are we here Hugo?” Ben asked, as he stood at the end of the camp looking around.
“I just had this feeling overcome me that we had to come back here.” Hurley replied.
“Oh. You know what that means.” Ben scoffed.
“No, not really, dude. I’m still not used to all this...” Hurley said as he heard a rustling coming from the jungle. Something was moving towards him.
“Hurley?” a familiar voice called out.
“Michael??” Hurley answered.
“Hurley. It’s time.” Michael stated as he came out of the brush.
Ben stood still, watching Hurley talk to thin air. He pretended not to listen, knowing what the conversation was about and grabbed a DHARMA water bottle out of the backpack by his feet. Taking a gulp, he stared out into the ocean’s abyss where a storm was forming in the distance.
“What do you mean? It hasn’t been long enough. He isn’t ready.” Hurley explained, “There’s still time. We need more time. ”
“No, Hurley, there isn’t. He needs to remember.” Michael urged, “Go get my boy!”

Present Day

Walt, still petting Vincent, stood back up. He looked over the barracks confused, and asked Hurley, “This is where we’re gonna live?”
“For now, this is where you will stay, until you’re ready to move out on your own. The choice will always be yours.” Hurley responded, “Let’s go inside, they’re waiting for us.” Hurley walked towards a cabin that was in the center of the village. Walt followed wearily with Ben close behind him, trying to catch up with Hurley. Vincent ran around them, still excited of their return. The pleasant aroma of food being cooked overcame the evening air.
“What is this place?” Walt asked to himself, not expecting a response.
“This is where I used to live.” Ben replied, “Well, I still live here.”
“Why is this even here? Does this have to do with the “job”? I don’t have to landscape and stuff, do I?” Walt inquired.
Ben looked at Hurley, who was curious to the answer that was about to come out of his mouth, “It’s a long story. Don’t worry, soon you will understand it all.” he chuckled, “Hurley has it all under control.”
The three walked up the short step onto the front porch where Vincent decided to sit. Hurley opened the door and turned to Walt, “After you.”

Walt stepped through the door into the living room of the cabin. Inside looked lived in, but tidy. Ben and Hurley followed.
“Welcome back, Walt,” said a soft female voice. Walt turned around with a look of shock as Rose walked in from the hallway to greet him with open arms. “It is so wonderful to see you again,” she said as she hugged him.
“I can’t believe you’re still here. I’m so happy to see you too.” Walt kindly replied.
“Come … you look hungry and tired.” Rose requested, as she guided him down the hall to the kitchen. Walt walked in to see an older gentleman making dinner. “This is my husband, Bernard.”
“Hello my friend. I’d, uh, shake your hand, but I kinda don’t have a free one at the moment.” Bernard smiled as he took a whole cooked chicken out of a pan and moved it onto a large serving plate.
“Nice to meet you. It smells delicious.”
Rose chuckled, “Ha ha. He must be hungry. Your cooking has never really smelled delicious.”
“I know I’m certainly hungry.” Hurley confirmed as he walked into the kitchen with Ben.
“Why don’t you gentlemen go wash up? Dinner is about ready and the others should be here soon.” Rose demanded, pointing to the direction of the restroom.
“Others? There’s more?” Walt asked.
“Oh honey there’s a lot more. I’m sure Hurley will fill you in when you’re ready and well rested.” Rose replied, looking at Hurley with a concerned expression.
“Yes Walt, soon enough.” Hurley responded, turning to follow Walt.
“Hello Benjamin.” Rose said as she helped bring food to the table, which was situated with 8 chairs and 8 place settings.
“Rose.” Ben replied, following Hurley.

8 Weeks Earlier

“Here you go.” A female’s voice is heard as a plate of generic hospital food is placed on a table. Next to it was a piece of paper with a pencil drawn picture of an island on it.
“I’m not really hungry.”
“Walt, you need to eat,” the female doctor said, as she knelt down to Walt, who was sitting at the table continuing to draw, “You’ve been drawing these islands for a while now. Is this where you are from?”
“Not exactly sure anymore … I keep dreaming about it. I want to go back.”
“Well you need to eat if you want the ability to continue drawing,” the girl replied. “Keep your strength up. You never know when you might need it.”

Present Day

“Dinner is ready and served!” yelled Rose, as if to notify the neighborhood. A few moments later, the front door opened. As Walt walked down the hallway from the restroom, he could hear Rose and Hurley welcoming the guests. As he walked into the living room, he could hear the slight Australian accents of two different females and another male.
“Walt, dude.” Hurley called, “I want you to meet Cindy, Emma and Zach.”
“Hi.” Cindy shook his hand firmly, and then walked towards the kitchen with Rose to greet Bernard. Emma, now an older teen shook his hand more loosely, “I have heard a lot about you,” she said, smiling with a bit of awe. “This is my brother, Zach.”
“Hi.” Walt said, extending his hand.
Zach, a young teenager, shook his hand firmly in return and asked, “Are you him?”
“Am I who?” Walt asked, a bit confused.
Zach stared back perplexed, and quickly broke the handshake.
“Time to eat.” Hurley advised swiftly, showing them the full spread of fresh food on the table.
“Where did all this come from?” Walt inquired.
“I know you have a lot of questions,” Hurley started, “I promise to answer what I can after dinner and tomorrow, but the more I answer, the more you will want to ask.”
They all sat and began to eat. Walt, full of wonder as to what could possibly come next, ate like he had not seen food in months. Hurley asked the others what had gone on in his absence, only to get responses of the usual happenings like the weather. No major issues. Walt looked around at everyone talking as he ate. Ben, who was sitting across the table, watched him closely and did not participate in the general conversation.

After dinner Cindy, Emma and Zach cleaned up, while Rose and Bernard retired to their own cabin.

“Walt, Ben ... come with me please.” Hurley asked as he walked towards one of the main bedrooms.
“Sure.” Ben and Walt both responded, following Hurley into one of the bedrooms.
“This will be where you will be sleeping,” Hurley advised, “Ben and I will be across the hall in the other two bedrooms.”
“This used to be my bedroom a while back.” Ben started, “Well, that was until everything changed. Then it was his.” Pointing slightly to Hurley. “Now, it’s yours.”
“Speaking of,” Hurley walked towards the closet, “There is something I want to show you before you go to sleep.”
“Why, so you can give the kid nightmares?” Ben joked.
“So he can see. Figure out the right questions to ask.” Hurley explained, as he moved the rolling clothes rack out of the way to reveal the secret entrance.
“Whoa. Cool.” Walt gasped.
“Oh you haven’t seen anything yet.” Ben whispered.
Hurley approached the stone door with the ancient writing, “And behind door number one…” he chuckled as he pushed the door open. The stale air bellowed in and hit them like a brick wall.
“Oh WOW!” Walt choked, following Hurley inside the chamber, waving the stench away from his nose, “What is that?”
Un-phased by the stench, Hurley explained, “This is one of many secrets to this island that I need you to help me unlock, Walt,” pointing to the writing, “Does any of this look familiar to you?”
“No, not at all.” Walt answered, “Should it?”
Hurley and Ben looked at each other disappointedly.
“Not yet I guess.” Hurley answered.
“Does this have to do with the whispers we heard in the jungle? Or my dad??” Walt continued.
“That, I am pretty sure of. Why don’t you sleep on it and we’ll get a fresh start in the morning,” Hurley requested as he guided Walt, who looked as though he did not want to leave, back out of the chamber. “We will go back in there again another time.”

8 Weeks Earlier

Two men in an outdoor diner, sat at a table eating. One stated to the other, “That boy is the key to everything!” as he slid a picture across the table, face down.
"How do you know, Hondo? Is it happening again?” The other asked as he picked the picture up.
“I know because I know, Chisisi. All you need to understand is that he is the key and needs to be …”
“I understand. It will be done. I will go to the address in Los Angeles you provided to me.” Chisisi stood up and looked over the Pyramids that gave the horizon depth from the sand. The streets of Cairo were quite. “I will telephone you when I have completed my quest, Hondo.”
“Know yourself … and be free.” Hondo replied, standing up as well.
“Namaste.” They both bowed their heads to each other. Chisisi took another glance at his target in the picture before putting it in the pocket of his pants.

Present Day

Walt awoke frantically with a gasp to find Hurley was sitting next to him, touching his shoulder. It was morning. He sat up rapidly, drenched in sweat.
“Dude!” Hurley exclaimed as he quickly sat back, “that was one hell of a dream. I guess Ben was right. It did give you…”
“They’re coming,” Walt muttered, still groggy and out of breath, “They’re coming!”

“I don’t know why I’m here actually,” Walt scoffed, as he threw the branch back into the woods. Sweat started to bead on his forehead.
“Why did you come back then?” Emma inquired.
“To help my dad.”

The night was humid, quiet, and only the distant lightning lit up the sky. “Hello?” came from the other end of the phone.

#01 "Home, Part 1"

This is where it all began. I can’t believe I’m back.’ Walt stood ankle deep in the ocean gazing upon the island, pondering all the memories that came flooding back. The crash. Locke. Jack. His father. He hunched over and cupped the ocean water in his hands and quickly splashed his face. The sun was hotter than he remembered. Everything seemed greener. Yet, the choking feeling in his throat would not clear.

Something was different.

Hurley stood further up the beach watching Ben pick up a backpack that had washed ashore. The mist from the ocean smelled as it always had, but this time it felt right. He closed his eyes unconscientiously and took in the air deeply, calmly. As he started to let out the relaxed exhale, Ben spoke quietly in his ear, startling him.
“Hugo.” Hurley quickly opened his eyes and jumped slightly.
“Don’t sneak up on me like that, dude.” Hurley replied, now wiping the mist from his face. “I know, it’s a lot to process. He still looks stunned by it.”
“We should get moving, there isn’t much time.” Ben advised Hurley strapping the backpack on.
“It shouldn’t take that long to get there.” Hurley replied as he started walking toward Walt, “It’s hard for him, ya know? Coming back, after all this time. It’s not gonna be easy. This has to be done delicately. We can’t afford any mistakes this time, Ben. It’s not like it was before.” Ben followed Hurley to the seashore assured that Hurley knew what he was doing.

Hurley called to Walt, “Little dude. We have to go. They’re waiting. Are you okay?” Without a reply, Walt walked to shore, eyes glazed over, blank stare, as he had just relived his time spent here.
“It is good to see you back on the island, Walt” Ben exclaimed. Walt halted and reacted with a look that stopped Ben from smiling and sent him straight to confusion. The glare was so cold and angry as if the very look was equal to the throw of a knife into Ben’s heart. Walt, not saying a word, continued to walk past. Ben eyes followed him, still confused. Hurley rubbed his chin and let out a slight chuckle. “Told you this was not gonna be easy. Stay here.”

Hurley walked up the embankment to where Walt had sat with his arms folded over his knees. “Can I sit?”
“Why? I don’t get it.” Walt muttered.
“So that I can sit?” Hurley humored.
“I mean about him.” Walt explained looking over at Ben, who was throwing small rocks into the ocean.
“I could explain that to you,” Hurley started, as he sat next to Walt, “but that won’t change anything you’re really feeling. I know that it is hard to let go of the bad things that happen in our lives,” Hurley put his hand on Walt’s shoulder, “but the first step is forgiveness.”
“I don’t know if I can.” Walt choked, “I remember everything that I had forgotten. What he and his people did. Are you …”
“Ben’s a different person now,” Hurley interjected, “He's not the man you remember. He has changed.” Walt glanced at Hurley unconvinced. “I'm not defending his actions. I’m just asking you to give him a chance so that he can prove that to you.” Hurley smiled and stood back up. “You’ve come this far, Walt. I’m asking you to trust me. There’s a lot I want you to see. Walk with me.” Hurley held out his hand.
Walt lightly scoffed, “Okay,” grabbing Hurley’s hand, “but I don’t feel like having a conversation with him just yet.”
Hurley pulled Walt up, waved Ben over and assured, “its okay, you will…eventually and on your own terms.”

The three walked into the jungle. Walt and Hurley walked together with Ben a few steps behind. They did not speak. Only wildlife could be heard. Walt took in his new surroundings. The sun, still hot, was darkened from the tall trees. The leaves were moist from the humid air.

The smell of ocean mist dissipated and was taken over by a stale scent. A little over an hour had past. Hurley glanced back to look at Ben. He was following a few steps behind looking jaded. When he noticed his boss was watching, he straightened up. Hurley nodded in the direction they were walking. Ben shook his head in acknowledgment. Hurley slowed his pace, “Walt, take a break for a sec.” he said, sounding out of breath. Walt stopped and Ben kept walking, dropping his backpack as he passed them.
"Where is he going?” Walt asked.
“Checking the road ahead. Don’t worry; we’ll catch up to him in a minute. Drink some water.” Hurley said pulling out two water bottles from the backpack, handing one to Walt. “So, any of this coming back to you?”
“Actually, no.” Walt said shockingly, “Where are we going anyway?”
“Well, it’s not much farther.” Hurley explained as he opened the bottle, “There’s a clearing up ahead, then a little bit more brush.” After taking a gulp of water he continued, “Then we can set up for the night. It’ll be dark soon. We’ll eat some food, get some shut eye, and then start our day early tomorrow.”
“How long is this entire journey gonna take?” Walt asked, also drinking down some water from his bottle.
“As long as it takes.” Hurley smiled, putting the bottle cap back on.

Suddenly, the sounds of the jungle went eerily silent as if all surrounding life ceased to exist. A cold breeze moved about the trees. Faint whispers could be heard, soft, low, and incomprehensible, as if they were carried on the wind. Walt looked at Hurley, concerned and confused. Hurley smiled back, calmly and peacefully. The whispers grew louder and the phrase 'He’s back' was barely audible. Immediately, a rustling came from the foliage ahead. Something was coming, and fast. Walt’s heart rate steadily increased as he watched nervously. The whispers grew louder, resonating in the breeze, now repeating in unison 'He’s back. He’s back'. Hurley, seemingly unfazed, watched Walt as Ben came rushing out from behind the brush. The whispers were silenced instantly and the sounds of the jungle returned. Ben stopped short, panting, out of breath. He noticed the look on Walt’s face.
“We are clear to go.”
Hurley chuckled, “Thanks,” handing Ben some water, then moving closer to Walt, “Relax little man. Whether you believe it or not, you are getting closer to your purpose here.” Placing his hand on his shoulder, Hurley led Walt forward, “C’mon, something you will want to see.”

Ben strapped the backpack on again, and the three of them walked through the brush and into the clearing to reveal the tall poles for the sonic security fence. Walt stopped suddenly and looked in awe as Hurley and Ben kept walking. There was now a warning sign posted at each pole that read ‘Warning – Sonic Fence Will Cause Serious Injury – Do Not Enter’
“It’s okay, Walt,” Ben assured, “I deactivated it for us.”
Walt continued forward slowly, waiting for Ben to walk through first. Once Ben passed, then Hurley, Walt stepped through. Ben stopped at the control panel and activated the fence. Walt quickly stepped ahead upon hearing the electronic whir that the sonic field created.
“We do not wish to have any unwanted visitors.” Ben smirked, standing up to continue onward.
“This way,” Hurley urged, motioning to the slight grassy incline, “We’re almost there.”

They crested the hill and walked back into more woods and brush. Walt, starting to feel tired said, “This, I certainly did not miss. Walking … everywhere… being dirty all the time and nothing around but jungle.” At that moment, all three picked up a scent. It smelled a little like something was burning, but smelled good. As they kept walking, the scent grew stronger.
“Right through here” Hurley advised, pushing away brush to expose a clearing. They had arrived at the DHARMA barracks. It was kept clean, and did not look abandoned.
“You live here?” Walt asked, “…and is someone cooking?” Walt finally showed positive emotion for the first time since joining Hurley and Ben. He wanted to ask more questions but was interrupted by the sounds of something hurdling towards him. “It can’t be...” Walt knelt to the ground, “Vincent????”
The yellow Lab jumped on Walt as if to hug him. His tail was wagging as fast as a whip at a circus.
“Everyone knows we are here.” Ben quietly advised Hurley, “and I mean everyone.”
Hurley responded even quieter, “We heard. You turned on the fence, so we’ll be okay. Why are you so nervous now?”
“He remembers.” Ben whispered looking at Walt, who was still consumed with the wound up dog.
“No. Not yet, but he will.” Hurley whispered in confirmation.
Walt instantly looked up in shock, as if he heard them.
Hurley simply exclaimed with a smile, “Welcome home, Walt. Welcome home.”

The Adventures of Hurley and Ben

Next week, on LOST: The Adventures of Hurley and Ben....

“Home, Part 2"

“Welcome back Walt,” said a soft female voice. Walt, inside one of the barrack’s houses, turns around with a look of shock…

“…and behind door number 1 is…” Hurley says, opening the secret ancient door in Ben’s closet…

Two unidentified men in an unfamiliar outdoor diner, sit at a table eating. One states to the other, “That boy is the key to everything!”

The New Man In Charge *SPOILER ALERT*

Yes, we are going to discuss it, because it is a vital part of what is to come!

Almost 12 minutes of new LOST. It's better than nothing I suppose. Although cool, I was still expecting a little bit more than what we got. That's A-okay because it gives me a chance. Had it answered more, then this venture of mine could have met a quick end.

OK, time to breakdown and talk about "The New Man In Charge". If you haven't seen it yet, do not read further. You have been warned...

What did we learn (in no particular order):

This takes place present day, so approximately 3 years after the events that took place on the island in the series finale, which was some time in 2007. Hurley and Ben are tying up DHARMA Initiative loose ends. Food drops are automated. DHARMA has a LOT of food stockpiled, and is really terrible at employee communication. They also have a warehouse in Guam. Nobody has been "stationed" at the Lamppost Station in 20 some odd years. Orientation films are now on DVD. Polar Bears are also "special" to island properties. Polar Bears are NOT your friends. "Hurley" birds, or Hy-birds, were created by DHARMA. Pierre Chang had to change his name from each Orientation film to protect his identity. The Polar Bear leashes had a tracking device. Room 23 was designed specifically for "Hostiles" to erase memories of interrogation, which was used to find their origins and more about Jacob. Also, so that it seems the "truce" is not violated.

Los Angeles: Walt's alias is Keith Johnson, as his father Michael was Kevin Johnson and is residing at Santa Rosa Mental Institute where Hurley attended. Walt was playing the same Connect 4 game that Leonard was, when Hurley first heard the "numbers". There is a chalkboard next to where Ben sits down that shows a drawing of an island. Walt has no friends. He also remembers being kidnapped by Ben. Ben is genuinely sorry, and takes responsibility for those actions. Walt is needed by Ben and Hurley, and there is work to be done. Starting with helping Michael, although dead, who can still be helped. Walt is aware that Michael is dead. Granola bars play a big part and are absolutely necessary when negotiating. Hurley and Ben have a DHARMA van. Walt had always hoped that somebody would come back for him and thought he was crazy. Hurley told Walt he was never crazy and that he always belonged on the island. Hurley wanted to talk to Walt about a job.

Sounds and looks like a lot for 12 minutes! Now, there are some questions now opened up. How are the Orientation films on DVD? How did they get a DHARMA van to L.A.? What is the significance with DHARMA granola bars? How do they get to and from the island? How are they going to eat without more food drops?

All these questions, and more long standing ones, will be addressed in the up coming stories.

Stay tuned....

LOST: The Complete Collection ROCKS!!!

That is all I have to say. It is a must have if you are a LOST fan. WOW! 32 total hours of bonus features???

Yes, right, I know ... that is not a typo!

I feel like a kid at Christmas! Except, I'm the one who paid for my own gift. Whatever. Still as exciting!

I am sure by now you all seen pictures, read articles, and know what is mostly included with this thing. If not, check out a couple posts down from here regarding the post at Room 23. There is an ankh! So cool. Black and white rocks for the Senet game Jacob and MiB played. A page out of a journal from the Black Rock! A black light?? Looks like I have to Easter egg hunt! An aerial map view of the island (which is almost like Oahu, HI). There is a hidden disc! Did I mention 32 HOURS OF EXTRAS!!! This includes the 12 minute epilogue with Hurley and Ben, which is probably most important to most (me!). I will not spoil here but I will be posting something later this week about it to set the stage.

Anywho - One more week until this story unfolds here! I plan on posting at 9pm EST to honor the air time of our beloved show. OK, gotta fire up the Blu-Ray player!! Take care then, bye-bye now.

Coming Soon!

Well I had to break down and watch the leaked LOST 12 minute Epilogue titled "The Man In Charge". I know, shame on me. I couldn't resist. It was right there and BAM! I am confident that it was the real deal because it was taken down the next day. Do not worry, I will not spoil it for anyone, but I am glad I saw it. Let's just say that had I waited to watch it on the actual release day, I would not have been able to keep my story on schedule.

Thankfully, I am still on schedule for Tuesday (LOST Day) 8/31.

The majority of the path I was on has been rewritten, and the "End" Game is completed. I am in the final stages of getting the individual weekly stories defined, starting of course with the premier, or season opener. Still working on the little details. One question I have is individual story length. How long should each weekly installment be? I certainly do not want it to be too long, or too short.

I want to hear from you. Please leave your comments on what you think should be a good length.

Congrats LOST!

Congratulations to LOST for winning the TCA Award for the "Outstanding Achievement in Drama" category! It was actually a tie with Breaking Bad, but kudos anyway! Well deserved.

See the full article here.

As for the upcoming story, I am still on track for 8/31. Good news, is that is a Tuesday (LOST Day). Stories will be updated every following Tuesday, unless otherwise noted.

One More Month

We are down to one month remaining before the release of the Complete Series Collection of LOST. Epic! Although, time seems to be dragging. I need to see this 12 minute segment before I can continue the writing process. Needless to say, the suspense is killing me. I have so much that I want to write but can't yet in fear that the stories may not sync up. I do not want to delay the release of this "Epi-blog" any further. I am not searching online for spoilers, although the though had crossed my mind more than once. Whatever is out there, I am sure that it is limited and most likely inaccurate (this is what I tell myself so that I may sleep at night).

Oh well, I guess we have no choice.  I appreciate those of you who are laying in wait.

I plan to post more info about the up coming story. Another teaser, if you will, and something that requires your feedback. I am all about your input ... this time anyway.     ;-p

Decisions, Decisions

Hey there and happy July! I hope everyone is having a good summer thus far. For me, it's been a busy one. Trucking right along and taking all the punches. I must say I am quite bruised but no worries, nothing is broken.

I wanted to check in and let you all know that I am still in the outline phase, and it has been quite the challenge. I am still trying to decide whether or not I want to keep any of the original characters that made it off the island (Sawyer, Miles, Richard, etc.). I am for sure, going to be introducing new characters, as most of the cool bad guys died in the series. I just need to figure out how many new ones to introduce. The list can get pretty long.

Without further ado, I give you the first unedited snippet in the story that is turning out to be much more involved than initially anticipated:

Ben sat there, sulking like a kid who can't get his way. "Dude, I don't know why you are being like this." Hurley started, "You are just like Darth Vader." Ben turned and looked, not understanding the metaphor. "You know, Star Wars, like you were all evil and stuff, then you turned good."
"What does that make you?" Ben asked. Hurley, not expecting the question, responded "I guess that would make me the Emperor." Ben scoffed, "Well then, it's a good thing I never saw that movie."

To be continued.

LOST: The Complete Collection Revealed

That's right! It's coming! Room 23 has posted some details of the upcoming release, still slated for 08/24/10. As I predicted, the epilogue contained will directly impact the story I plan to write. I certainly do not want to spoil anything here, or take any thunder away from Room 23's post. All I can say is ... I cannot wait for this thing to come out!

If you are interested in what he saw from his sneak preview, I encourage you to take a look for yourself here.

Welcome To The New!

06/21/10 UPDATE! If you come by to check this out, please leave a comment to let me know what you think. If you don't feel like posting a comment, please select one of the Reaction Boxes. I am trying to get a feel for how many people like, or do not like, this concept. Thanks again for stopping by.

Original Post:

I look forward to this venture and hope you will all join me in taking our favorite show to a new level. This story will take its first leap a week after the Lost series box set is released, currently slated for 08/24/10. The box set will include a special 12-14 minute epilogue that will center around Hurley and Ben.

Since I have no idea what that story will be, and where it fits in the overall timeline, I may have to do a few quick edits before the premier of these adventures. A week should do it, so tentatively we are looking at around 08/31/10.

In the meantime, more posts will come in the form of teasers of the upcoming Adventures of Hurley and Ben.

I welcome your feedback so please feel free to comment. All will be read and appreciated.
